Homemade Cake Release Recipe for Perfect Cake Layers Every Time! - Recipe & Video

The last thing you want after spending all that time and effort baking a cake, is for the cake to stick to the pan and break when you come to removing it! Recently I've been making my own cake release (also known as cake goop or cake grease) to prepare my cake tins, and it's been working amazingly! It has saved me so much time and money, and my cake layers come out perfect every time! :)

If you'd like to watch how this recipe comes together, check out my YouTube video below, or scroll down for the written recipe :)

YouTube video on how to make this DIY cake release!

Prep time: 5 minutes │ Yield: About 3 cups of cake release

Note: 3 cups of cake release will coat a lot of pans, so if you're only wanting a small amount simply reduce the quantity. This recipe is an easy 1:1:1 ratio of vegetable oil, fat (butter or shortening) and flour, so as a quick guide, a tablespoon of each will be enough to cover an 8 inch cake tin.

- 1 cup of unflavoured vegetable oil

- 1 cup of softened butter (shortening can be used as well)

- 1 cup of flour

- Combine all the ingredients into a bowl and mix together with a hand mixer or stand mixer until the mixture is smooth.

- Using a pastry brush, generously coat your cake pan with the cake release.

- Place the leftover cake release in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for future use. Pull it out about an hour or so before coating your pans to allow it to come to room temperature.
